Give your tin a clean home
A small zippered pouch or a dedicated personal-items compartment is a useful starting point. Keep the closed container separate from dirty gloves, loose screws, leaking bottles, and tools. The goal is simple organization: you should be able to reach for your balm without digging through everything else you carried home.
At home, choose an indoor shelf or drawer where the container will stay dry and out of direct sunlight. Put it somewhere connected to an existing habit, such as beside the belongings you unpack after work. A consistent spot is easier to remember than moving the tin from room to room.
A work bag is a carrying spot, not protection from heat
The FDA notes that temperature changes and exposure to sunlight can affect cosmetics' texture, color, and odor, and advises against leaving them in a hot car. Keep Work Putty away from dashboards, sunny windowsills, heaters, and other hot storage spots. Make taking the bag indoors part of your end-of-shift routine. If you use a workplace locker, choose a clean personal-storage area and follow your employer's rules.
Close the lid before moving on
It is easy to apply a little balm, set the lid down, and get distracted by the next job. Instead, make closing the container the final step of every application. Check that the lid is seated properly before putting it back in your pouch.
Keep the outside and rim clean, and use clean, dry hands when taking product from the tin. The FDA recommends keeping cosmetic containers and applicators clean. Avoid leaving an open container beside a sink or on a dusty work surface.
Keep the label with the product

Check your kit when you unpack
Use the same moment you empty your pockets or put away your keys to check your personal-care pouch. Is the lid closed? Is the pouch dry? Did anything spill in the bag? Does the container need wiping before it goes back on the shelf?
